The nine templates

Nine copy-ready RFI formats for the situations that generate most steel RFIs. Each has its own page: when to use it, a subject line, a body you can paste and fill, what to attach, how to word impact, and what not to say.

1. Missing embed / anchor rod conflict — cast-in embeds conflict across drawings; pour date sets the clock → 2. Connection conflict — structural vs architectural — the detailed connection can't coexist with finishes or clearances → 3. Beam penetration / opening — MEP needs a hole through a web that structural doesn't show → 4. Coating / galvanizing spec conflict — spec sections disagree; guessing a coating system is expensive → 5. Overdue RFI — impact notice — a real hold, dates and the contract article — nothing emotional → 6. Field dimension / existing conditions — measured deltas vs the drawings, documented one by one → 7. Substitution request — mill availability problem; make the EOR's check a 30-second job → 8. Long-lead material — PO-date math back from erection; dates persuade, adjectives don't → 9. Connection design responsibility — who designs the connections, and with what forces — in writing →

Log every one of these. Submission date, needed-by date, response date, what was held, what it cost. That trail is where steel money leaks — and where it’s recovered.
